Diamond Caves II

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

How do I install the demo-version of Diamond Caves II?

At first, download the latest version by clicking here. The file is a ZIP archive, you have to unzip it first. You can get a free copy of Winzip from www.winzip.com. Inside the archive you will find a file called Setup.exe. Start this file and follow the on-screen instructions.

...regarding ordering the game and using the access code

What is the difference between the unregistered Shareware version and the registered version of Diamond Caves II?

The unregistered version of Diamond Caves II contains 50 levels (30 Tutorial Levels and 20 Advanced Levels) so that you can test the game and the Leveleditor.

Only after registering will you be able to download and play any of the additional Levelgroups available on the Levelgroup page. And you can use the Leveleditor to create your own caves.

I would like to register but I do not have a credit card / I do not want to send the data over the Internet. Is there any other way to order?

Yes, please go to the order page for more information. If you have a credit card and do not want to order using our secure server, you can send the order form via fax or standard-mail.

I received my acccess code but the game does not accept it, I get a 'checksum error' message when starting the Leveleditor.

If the program does not accept the code, the cause might be a slight typing error:
The easiest way to avoid any typo is to copy the access code from the E-Mail and paste it directly into the editbox. Then procede the same way with the name.

Remember that the code consists of 32 characters and digits. Depending on the font your E-Mail-Reader is using, some letters and numbers may look alike, for example the letter O and the number 0 or the letter l (the small 'L') and the number 1.

I registered some time ago and lost my code. Do I have to order again?

No, you do not have to order again. Please contact with the same data that you provided at the time of registering (address, etc) and you will receive a new access code.

I read somewhere that you are working on Diamond Caves 3? What happens to my current Diamond Caves II registration when Diamond Caves 3 is released?

The latest news on Diamond Caves 3 is available on the previews-page.

...regarding new users

Tip: If you are stuck in any of the 30 Tutorial or 20 Advanced Levels, try watching the replay file by clicking on 'replay game' instead of 'start game' - you will see a previously recorded game.

How do I use the Dynamite in Tutorial Level 10?

First you have to collect a stick of Dynamite. Then press the firebutton (the CTRL-key if you are playing with keyboard) for two seconds, then run away!

How do I get past the mines in Tutorial Level 11?

The hint says 'you can remove a mine by touching it!' - you can touch a field next to you by holding down the firebutton (the CTRL-key if you are playing with keyboard) and then pressing a direction. This will ignit the mine without killing the player, and it works with all kind of other stuff as well!

It seems there are not enough Emeralds in Tutorial Level 17!

There are more than enough Emeralds in this level, the only thing is that you have to create them first! The magic wall in the middle of the level will turn any boulder that falls on top of it into an Emerald (the green one). But it also turns every Emerald into a Diamond (the blue one) - and the Diamond is worth three Emeralds.
Tip: If you still don't know what to do, try watching the replay file by clicking on 'replay game' instead of 'start game'!
And... you don't need the Boulder that is stuck in the corner, it is impossible to get this one through the magic wall :-)

I can't reach the exit in Advanced Level 1!

The two exits in the top left corner are not the real exits, these two can't be entered. You have to hit the eater (who is resting at the top of the level) with a boulder to reveal the real exit.

...regarding additional Levelgroups

I have registered my copy of Diamond Caves II and I want to play some of the additional Levelgroups. What exactly do I have to do?

First you should download one of the additional Levelgroups from the Levelgroups page. The files are ZIPed, you have to unzip them first. You can get a free copy of Winzip from www.winzip.com.Extract the file with the dc2 extension from the archive - this is the actual levelgroup - and save it somewhere on your harddisk. Then enter the leveleditor and use the 'Import Levelgroup' function (the disk pointing to a drawer) to include the levelgroup into your database of levels.

I'm playing Diamond Caves II for quite a while and I started to create some levels of my own. Is there any way I can make these levels available to other Diamond Caves II users?

Yes, as you can see on the Levelgroup page, there are already a number of Levelgroups created by users for other players. Just send your Levelgroup to my address and I will publish it on this website.

I'm stuck in a Level and would like to watch a replay-file like I did with the Tutorial and Advanced Levels but most of the additional Levelgroups do not have any replay files. Can you help?

Replay files are recorded by the author of the level - this can be quite time consuming so most additional levels do not come with replay files. But you can always ask the author of the levelgroup to give you tips on how to solve the level. Maybe he will even record this particular level for you.
See below for a list of E-Mail addresses.

I'm stuck in a Level and would like to edit it in the Leveleditor but I can't because I don't know the password.

Some Levels are protected by a password. This means that you can play the Level but you can't alter it using the Leveleditor. You have to ask the author of the Level (or the Levelgroup) for the password:
